The Craddock Center has offered this program for the last three years to families who have experienced a significant loss, such as the death of a loved one, separation or divorce of their parents, abandonment, or loss of childhood due to parent’s abuse of drugs or alcohol. RAINBOWS provides a safe place for kids to be kids and to get an opportunity to express their fears, their sadness and their pain. Trained facilitators work with small groups of no more than five children providing the guidance to grieve and grow after loss.
This is what one parent reported: “I was grateful for RAINBOWS because it gave my daughter a safe place where she could share feelings apart from me…Her father and I divorced when she was 4…I truly believe it was a major factor in helping her heal.”
A nine-year-old participant said: “Before RAINBOWS I wasn’t very good at keeping my temper. RAINBOWS has helped me and everybody else a lot. Now, I don’t lose my temper…I’m really happy now.”
A six-year-old participant reported: “Before RAINBOWS, the only one who listened to me was my teddy bear.”
In the Fall of 2011 The Craddock Center is excited to offer RAINBOWS in the Fannin County schools.
