Our musical guest was Laura
Boosinger, a performer and recording artist from Asheville. She held
a workshop on Shaped-Note Music at CLCC on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and sang and
played both Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Helen Lewis and several of
her ex-nun friends talked Saturday evening after dinner about their work
together in Appalachia. Helen’s new book, Mountain Sisters, was available
and she autographed copies.
C.W. Conner and friends
hosted a crafts display on Saturday 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Craddock Center on
Cherry Log Street.
The covered dish dinner was held at
CLCC on Saturday evening. At 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Fred
Craddock talked at the Cherry Log Christian Church about Religion in
Appalachia, including foot washing, inspired speech, snake handling, and basic
beliefs about life and God.

5TH Annual Helen Lewis Lecturer
On Friday, February 6, 2009, The Craddock Center will present the Fifth
Annual Helen Lewis Lecture. The series of lectures was established in
honor of anthropologist, Dr. Helen Lewis, to focus on a specific area of
Appalachian life and culture. We are pleased to announce the 2009
lecturer will be Marian Wright Edelman, the Founder and President of the
Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) in Washington, D.C.
Admission is free and no reservations are required. — TLS
Monday, March 2, 2009 — Spring Preaching Workshop.
9:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.
at Cherry Log Christian Church. Topic: “Preaching the End Time”. No
charge but reservations are required.
