Curator Anna Fariello will speak on "Southern Craft: A Revival in the
Mountains"
Anna
Fariello is a former research fellow with the Smithsonian American Art
Museum and former field researcher for the Smithsonian Folklife Center. As a
Fulbright Scholar, she taught museology and conducted a folklife study in
Latin America. Her work in the region includes serving as Visual Art Editor
for the Encyclopedia of Appalachia. A professional curator, her
Asheville-based firm Curatorial InSight is a service organization
specializing in exhibitions, interpretation, museum planning, and staff
training. Her experience includes 15 years of teaching Museum Studies and 20
years work with state institutions and accredited museums. She is currently
curator of the Craft Revival, a Digital Collection of Western Carolina
University’s Hunter Library.

5TH Annual Helen Lewis Lecturer
On Friday, February 6, 2009, The Craddock Center will present the Fifth
Annual Helen Lewis Lecture. The series of lectures was established in
honor of anthropologist, Dr. Helen Lewis, to focus on a specific area of
Appalachian life and culture. We are pleased to announce the 2009
lecturer will be Marian Wright Edelman, the Founder and President of the
Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) in Washington, D.C.
