HEY LOOK!   IT'S THE STORY EXPRESSTM...

The Story Express Van

What is the Story ExpressTM?

Children leaving the Story ExpressA very special bookmobile, the Story ExpressTM is filled with books and materials appropriate for children of all ages and reading levels.  With the mission of bringing literacy, love of reading, books, engagement in learning and fun to some of the neediest regions of Southern Appalachia, the Story ExpressTM is an integral part of the Craddock Center's Children's Enrichment Program.

Visiting food pantries, schools, and other community organizations, the Story ExpressTM offers children in need free books to choose, keep and enjoy.  For many of the children the Story ExpressTM serves, this may be one of the few new items they receive in their young lives.  The gift of a new book helps increase their confidence, imaginations and motivates them to read.

Working with Head Start Programs

Ms. Doty showing books to a child940 Head Start and Pre-K children in seven counties in north Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee benefit from the donation of storytelling, movement and music instruction on a weekly basis through the Craddock Center's Children's Enrichment Program.

The Story ExpressTM plays an important role in providing this experience, as well.  Making regular visits to the Head Start programs, children are encouraged to explore the kinds of books that interest and engage them.

How You Can Help

Two girls looks at their new booksDonations
Donations to the Story Express
TM are greatly appreciated.  All financial donations are put directly towards the purchase of new books.

Donations of new books are also greatly valued and make wonderful additions.

Vendors
Donations and discounts from book vendors are an important and vital part of the success of the Story Express
TM. Books ranging from board books to middle grade novels are needed.  Any assistance your company may provide is a tremendous gift to the children involved.

Used Books
The Craddock Center also accepts contributions of gently loved used books.  These books are also distributed and used for programs for those in need.  For this reason, used books need to be clean, undamaged and in appealing condition.
